Request Of Commission - Story/Images

Post by Hesam Jayatar »

Honourable Minister,

I, Hesam Jayatar would like to claim a commission for my work on my present story. I believe it is helping to develop my Barony and the Duchy of Elwynn as a whole. It has also revitalized an ancient culture (albeit in a new light). As such, I would like to request a commission of 75 erb for work completed and an additional 25 erb for every chapter written henceforth. As I would not presume your honours generosity, my commission request is negotiable. But I suggest that His Honour consider not just the written story, but the accompanying images which take a great deal of time to produce.

Regards,

HJ

I don't think my opinion matters here, but I think Hesam certainly deserves a reward for this. The story is engrossing and the images are very good IMO.

And I disagree.

Not because Hesam's story is anything less than wonderful, but because with te new voting system, I'm not sure it's appropriate any longer for the government to be handing out commissions. Seventy five erb is a very large amount - enough to give Elwynn a much larger influence in Landsraad votes. And culturally active Duchies do deserve more influence in Landsraad votes.

There is no single person who can afford to pay seventy-five erb for anything. It would half-bankrupt some Duchies. If the MiniTrade keeps granting large commissions, it will make companies and personal trade almost worthless, because it will be easier to "feed at the government trough", so to speak. It would also cause inflation to skyrocket with all the new money being fed into the system from the Shirekeep account.

If this request is granted, I foresee everyone wanting commissions. Do Scott and I get something for composing that Musica song? :) Does Benkern get something for starting a Ducal Legislature? Does Kildare get anything for the civil war role-playing there? And if it does, how do we know it got it fairly and not just because Andreas is the Minister of Trade? (yeah, I know you're honest, but we can't go trusting that forever). You'll have to spend half your time approving and denying commission requests for the sorts of things Shirerothians have always done, and everyone who doesn't get what they asked for will get angry.

Commissions are a good idea, but the idea needs more development before any money changes hands. For example, the Kaiser or MiniTrade got 100 erb per month (or each gets 50) to spend on commissions, and at the end of each month they split it up among all the people who most deserved it.

I still maintain that Hesam deserves a reward.

I believe it should come from his Duke.

I agree that 75 erb is too much.

But those images really do deserve some recognition outside of his County/Duchy...

Hesam deserves a reward because he did some work for his duchy?
Can I get a reward too? Afteral, I made the Kildarian website.

I think, like said before, that Hesam deserves a reward BUT from his Duke instead from the state.
From a distance I'm concerned about the rampant lawyerism manifesting itself in Shireroth currently. A simple Kaiserial slap on the wrist or censure by the community should suffice. - Jacobus Loki

hey, if I asked for 75 it doesn't mean I'll get it. That's what trade values are all about. How much is something actually worth at a given time? And yes, for a while there will be "inflation" but that's just to get more erb out to people.

California must be a rather nice place if you're able to have beliefs like that! :p

Surely you must be aware of the massive amount of subsidies the arts community receives in the real world. Nobody does art just for the sake of it anymore. :evil

I have friends who are essentially shiftless, lazy cowards who've made themselves into relatively famous Canadians simply by applying for art grants and being able to get dramatically intoxicated at their gallery shows. While I slave behind a desk, I am reminded of the phrase "work smart, not hard".

I completely agree Yvain. And theres also the question of pre-created stuff. I assume this is your long story in Hyperborea that started before the economy? If I grant you bounty for that, what's to stop, say, Harvey coming back and claiming for CoD 2? Because if I pay you 75 for a story, he gets minimum 1500 ...

This bounty thing needs more looking at before anything's paid. And I suspect a blanket ban on anything written before either when this bill finally fully passed the Landsraad, or just before any commissions start getting paid. Just to keep it fair ...

I don't think it needs to be. I think we can decide it ourselves ... but we do need to quantify it somewhere. Give me a day or two to get something up ...
