Offering my Resignation

Your Niftiness,

A potential conflict of interest developed in the previous week and a half between my role as Shirithian MiniTrade and as Nelagan Minister for Greed. While I believe I successfully followed Imperial instructions to the letter (conducting the auction of JASO, and ensuring a prompt payment and redistribution of funds), some may believe I did not follow them to the spirit (for example, the auction could have been designed in a different format so as to provide greater probable payouts).

I wish to make it clear that during this time I have had nothing but the utmost respect and support for her niftiness' official policy, and have no qualms with this. However, as a private citizen, my heartfelt religious and ethical beliefs have brought me into conflict with other members of her nifitness' government, and there may be some who would accuse me of abusing my position. I freely admit that I place doing what I think is right above doing what is necessarily nationalisticly* appropriate. Therefore, before they call for my heads, I offer my resignation.

If her niftiness believes that defending my beliefs have led me to err or made me unsuitable to continue to serve as a Minister of the Republic, and she would like my resignation, then she may accept my offer and I shall leave quietly, and refocus my efforts on Kildare, where I believe my beliefs are more respected.

If, instead, her niftiness has been happy with my conduct and would appreciate the continuation of my services, then I am ever her devoted Minister, and happy to continue serving as MiniTrade at her niftiness' pleasure.

I leave the matter of my future in the Imperial Government in your hands, my niftiness.

*though this is not necessarily synonomous with "in Shireroth's best interests," and I believe in this case other mitigating factors, such as diplomatic repositries of good will etc make my actions ultimately in Shireroth's best interests.

If you will note the wording, I have not resigned. I've merely offered to resign if her Niftiness wants that.

The clue is in the title - if the Kaiseress declines the offer it effectively affirms the validity of his conduct. A bit extreme as gambits go but fair play to the chap.
