Just outside Kitanus City...

Post by ErosSerafiem »

The red-haired man runs his hand over the white stone walls, as if feeling the history they've seen. The Chapel of the Three Lights, the only structure still standing on the abandoned grounds of Hasan Air Base, has seen better days.

A tiny falcon lands on his shoulder, its aristocratic squawk informing the lord of the Kitanus Fields that it does not appreciate being used as a messenger. Eros takes the parchment from its leg and bids the raptor good hunting. As he reads the note, he smiles. Good. The Kaiser and the Gods agree - he is a priest again.

Calling on his will and the energy of the land itself, he waves at the three bowls standing at the head of the chapel. Agni's will joins with his to light a dancing orange flame in one, a brilliant yellow in another, and a bright silver in the third. These are the Three Lights - the Light of Simple Flame, honoring Agni the Firelord; the Light of Knowledge, honoring Hasan; and the Light of All Light, honoring Lumina.

The effort exhausts him. Magic has all but faded from the fields, and where once any noble of the line of Kitanus could effortlessly do what Eros just did, now it is a stretch for even the High Priest of Agni.

But the temple is relit. Hope is restored, and come nightfall, all of Kitanus Fields will know that a new age of prosperity is upon them. He hopes the city, at least, will return from the collection of hovels and tents to the shining beacon of civilization it once was.

He has less hopes for the rest of the settlements - Mie, Lamentia, Natio... the founding cities of Kitanus, in existance for longer than even he, have become bare ruins, inhabited only by itinerant tribes of tiger-riders. The masters of the feline cavalry themselves have fallen; no longer the glory of Kildare but overshadowed by air cavalry, tanks and other trappings of modernity.

Qel'Athas lies empty; the elves fled years ago. Irreverence Brightstar, the Dragon of Kildare, slumbers far underneath the land, and magic itself seems to have failed. Eros has been away far too long.

He's fixed that. Now to fix the rest of the County.
