Little did Andreas the Wise, one of the Lord's at the binding, know, but in his very own Barony in Kildare, there were some of those "older magics" left. Faded from their former glory, yes. Hiding often from the more popular non-magical civilisation, often. But still there, and still alive. And suddenly finding their magic diminished. Realising the arrogance of what he had done, and also realising that it had occurred because Kildare (and Shireroth as a whole) had gone far, far too long without a Lord of Magic, he proposed to establish outposts of his own Novatainian Academy in the Barony of Atterock, to train those interested in the new ways of SCM. The outposts were named ANOVA - Atterockian-Novatainian Outpost for the Variously Arcane. The goal was to use as few Novatainian Archmages as necessary - so that, soon enough, the native Atterockians would become proficient in the new magic and be able to manage the outposts themselves. For the transistion period, they exist as this:
Note on Envisionism:In Old Hallucination, home to the Ents and Dryads and covered by a great forest, a dozen Elven Archmages were sent. They established their outposts in the trees, moulding the shapes of the living plants into platforms and fashioning houses out of leaves and branches. Though they preferred it up in the trees, many of their students, especially the Ents, were happiest on the ground, and so the Elves taught some lessons down there. Mainly this outpost catered to the attendants of the Temple of Ryvenna - the many Dryads, and the rather fewer Ents, though a few humans from Port Halluci and Bray ventured in to learn also. All young men, for some reason. Probably nothing to do with the fact all Dryads are, by nature, attractive, scantily clad young women.
Envisionism, however, is not on the program. It is ancient magic of the land, certainly ... but not SCM, and for that reason, it will fade, lest someone returns who already knows it well.
In summary - for reasons totally unrelated to Shireroth we made a binding affecting the whole world, because nobody practised magic. Unfortunately, that's logically got to mean anyone else who now tries to start up again without our system is weaker. You can still do what you like with Envisioning ... but until you get that stone back, or we change the binding, you probably can't god-mod your way through an entire warAndreas looked with eager interest on the little that the Spirit of the Barony, Ozarka had done with envisioned defences. To Andreas, its magical nature seemed obvious - here, pure and simple, was someone channelling the raw magical power of the land (from which all magic came), and turning it into illusions as real as any people. If any truth remained in the rumours that the old Envisioning Stone was hidden somewhere in Hallucigrad, it, like all ancient magical artifacts, would have survived the binding with its powers fully intact. Andreas had ensured that - he had many ancient magical artifacts of his own. But, though SCM bought much freedom in magical expression, it also brought far greater restrictions on power than the first binding had. No longer could Andreas, as Lord, channel the raw power of the Land in times of need to do great magical deeds. Everyone's power was limited, and though Andreas could take almost two thousand soldiers on single handedly ... he could no longer take down entire armies in his wrath. And that would mean that only those who remembered the power of Envisioning could still use it, and even then, diminished. Andreas was really beginning to regret the arrogance with which they had made the whole world conform to their binding. Perhaps he would talk to the other lords ...
