Services provided by the Ministry of the Interior

Post by Ari Rahikkala »

The Ministry of the Interior is Shireroth's center for technical infrastructure, and for various administrative and janitorial tasks as we happen to take them on. It is the place for Shirithian citizens to lodge all requests that need administrative permissions on the forum or the ShireWiki to implement.

Our free services are delineated in the 34th Century MiniInt act, the relevant part reproduced here:
4.1. The following services shall be provided for free: Creating, archiving, or destroying forums; Reasonable work in configuring forum settings (including forum images and banners); Reasonable work in configuring user permissions and moderatorships; Reasonable work in creating, configuring and destroying usergroups; Setting permissions and deleting spam pages in the ShireWiki; and other minor administrative work.
4.1.1. The Ministry of the Interior may place a charge for fulfilling requests for otherwise free services if they are not in the general Shirithian interest, such as creating secret forums with restricted usership.
4.1.2. The definitions of "reasonable" and "minor" in this context shall be at the discretion of the Minister of the Interior.

We also offer pay services to Shirithian citizens. Each service may be payable, in part, to two parties: The Shirithian government (listed in ShireBank as "Crown Account"), and the person in the MiniInt fulfilling the request (currently Ari Rahikkala in all cases unless otherwise noted). Fees payable to the government are listed as "state pay", ones payable to the worker are listed as "ministerial pay". All prices are negotiable on a case-by-case basis, and we reserve the right to ask for a price higher than our stated base price for any service (we will not, however, bill for more than the price we state to the client). The MiniInt reserves the right to refuse to provide any pay service to anyone for any reason (though we list some specific reasons why we might reject any specific service, possible reasons for rejections aren't limited to these).

The services we currently offer are:

Emoticons on the posting page: The client submits an emoticon to be added to the posting page, along with a smiley code (the text one types to display the emoticon once installed). The emoticon must be a reasonably emoticonish-sized image, a reasonably small file, not obscene or illegal, and the smiley code must be reasonable (in most cases, this means a word prefixed by a colon). The MiniInt adds the emoticon. 800 erb state pay, no ministerial pay.

Emoticons: The client submits an emoticon to be added to the board, along with a smiley code. It will be usable, and listed in "View more smilies", but not included in the smilies list on the posting page. The same restrictions apply as with buying emoticons on the posting page. 200 erb state pay, no ministerial pay.

Links in the Malarbar: The client submits an URL and a link text to be added to the Malarbar main menu (the one saying "Calendar - ShireWiki..."), and the number of weeks zie wants the link to be up. The link is added to the end of the main menu. The link text or content of the link's target must not be illegal or obscene. The link text must be short. There may be at most two links in the Malarbar at any one time bought through this service. Billing is for increments of one week. 50 erb state pay per week, no ministerial pay.

Stickied threads in General Discussion: The client submits a link to a thread on the General Discussion forum and the number of weeks zie wants it to be stickied. The thread will be made a sticky for that time. Billing is for increments of one week. 30 erb state pay per week, no ministerial pay.

Board styles: The client submits a description of a board style to be implemented, added to the board, and set as the style of any forum that the client is the forum leader of. State pay is 200 erb in every case. Ministerial pay is negotiated on a case-by-case basis depending on how much work implementing the style is for the minister, beginning at 50 erb for trivial changes such as merely changing the forum background.

Restricted forums: The client submits a forum (one that zie is the forum leader over) to be restricted from the public in specific ways, and a list of people who are not restricted thus. For instance, a hidden forum that's only readable (and postable in) by a specific group of people with a secret project, or a public forum where only the people of a specific duchy may vote. State pay is 200 erb. Ministerial pay is 50 erb.

Furthermore, there are some services that we don't provide on their own, but only as part of different services. We will notify the client if they have to buy these.

Board code modifications: Where implementing a board style or miscellaneous request correctly requires a modification to the phpBB board code, we bill for a board code mod. State pay and ministerial pay are determined and negotiated per case, but both begin at 500 erb for everything but very trivial modifications.

Finding usernames: Where a list of usernames (such as for a restricted forum) is not provided such that each username is spelled exactly correctly, and the ministerial bill for the service would otherwise be at least 50 erb, 10 erb is added to the ministerial pay for each username in the list.

Also furthermore: Ask us about stuff that wasn't listed here!

Yes, folks, this means that *now* you can buy those smilies. Also, I reserve the right to be very nice to Straylightians when negotiating prices :jesus
