On the Anthem

Post by benkern »

For those of you that haven't basked in its Audio Glory, here's the Shirerithian Anthem (it's integral to the post so I may as well include it :P):

http://www.shireroth.org/anthem.mid

Have any words every been written to it? It's short and simple, and damn catchy too, so lyrics would be very few anyway. But has it ever been tried before?
By His H47,
Baron Benkern of Vorpmadal, Yardistan.

"Tis not a leaving of a harried knave/Tis not with tail tucked in shame/Rather in glorious exhibition of benevolent might/Sun bids the world an emblazon g'night."
"But every beginning is only a continuation and the book of fate is always open in the middle."

Benkern--

I heard it a long time ago. I don't know who wrote it, but I believe a couple of people offered lyrics. They didn't seem to catch on, but I'd like to see if we can actually get that accomplished. Thanks for posting it again.

I don't know if it's official or not, but I seem to remember the lyrics being:
Shireroth, the land of the nifty, hallowed by Gods and Fate
Where small clods of soil and filth, merge into something great
Shireroth, the land of the rebel, breaking from ways of yore
Shireroth, the land of the noble, Death spare thee evermore

Beautiful! I must crie of it :cry

Nick of Yardistan wrote the music... as for the lyrics.. I thinki he MIGHT have written some to go with it, out side that remote chance, there are no lyrics..

The lyrics Scott provided really do pwn.

Just play the tune and sing the lyrics (aloud or in your head), they're great! :)

One out of Four lines ain't that bad. If Shireroth isn't Noble and Nifty, then what is it? =P

Lets have no lyrics, just the tune is inspiring enough.

Man, I haven't heard that in a long time...not bad considering I knew so little about writing music at the time.

To my knowledge, no official lyrics were ever decided upon. I know I didn't write any because I suck at writing lyrics, really.

Are you back in Shireroth? I hope so. You have been missed.

Besides, it's dificult to sing these lyrics to this tune, IMO, since "Shireroth" the way I pronounce it has only two syllables...

Our founder pronounces it "shy-roth"

I do indeed.. despite being told many times it shouldn't be pronounced that way...

Besides, I was under the impression that Shireroth's actual anthem was supposed to be that "tune" where you just play one note on a whole bunch of instruments for as long as you can (I think some lasted for over 40 seconds). Or maybe that was just a proposal?

Let us sing for the rebirth of Shireroth!

Shireroth, the land of the nifty, hallowed by Gods and Fate
Where small clods of soil and filth, merge into something great
Shireroth, the land of the rebel, breaking from ways of yore
Shireroth, the land of the noble, Death spare thee evermore
