Micronational video game rating systems

Post by CJ Miller »

Because I'm running out of good ideas.

The Landsraad bill I'm drafting would create the Videogame Ratings Commission (VRC) under the MiniTrade and would establish the following ratings:
  • G. Suitable for all ages. Examples: Wii Play and Super Mario Bros.
  • 7. Suitable for players 7 and up. Examples: Madden NFL 10 and Burnout Paradise
  • 12. Suitable for players 12 and up. Examples: Halo 3: ODST and Final Fantasy XIII
  • 16. Suitable for players 16 and up. Examples: Halo 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
  • 18. Restricted to players 18 and up. Examples: Grand Theft Auto 4 and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
I also whipped one up for Safiria (and probably, therefore, Hamland at large):
  • A. Suitable for all ages. Examples: Wii Play and Super Mario Bros.
  • B. Suitable for players 7 and up. Examples: Madden NFL 10 and Burnout Paradise
  • M. Suitable for players 13 and up. Examples: Team Fortress 2 and Final Fantasy XIII
  • R13. Restricted to players 13 and up. Examples: UFC Undisputed 2010 and Halo 3: ODST
  • R16. Restricted to players 16 and up. Examples: Halo 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
  • R18. Restricted to players 18 and up. Examples: Grand Theft Auto 4 and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Feel free to suggest changes, game classifications, etc. in this thread.

I wonder if this is a law that we actually need? There are some laws which fit into the category of "purely IC" (or purely in-sim, depending what lingo you like). Given that Shireroth doesn't do a great deal of RPs, and given that as actual micronational computer games go, aside from the Control of Destiny series you can count the rest on one hand, I'm not sure such a law is worth bothering about? :fish

Just my two erb, feel free to ignore it.
The character Andreas the Wise is on indefinite leave.
However, this account still manages:
Cla'Udi - Count of Melangia
Manuel - CEO of VBNC. For all you'll ever need.
Vincent Waldgrave - Lord General of Gralus
Q - Director of SAMIN
Duke Mel'Kat - Air Pirate, Melangian, and Duke of the Flying Duchy of Glanurchy

And references may be made to Vur'Alm Xei'Bôn (a Nelagan Micron of undisclosed purpose).

There's more than one video game in this entire hobby? oO

Not more than one complete game (JDO, wasn't it?). But Jonas started on one (Kildarian Time Wars), Nick started on one about the Jokerdom, and odds are one other person in ten years tried to make a computer game.

Not to mention mods for already-extant games (various micronational Prime MInister Forever scenarios come to mind).

You know, as someone who's been around for a while and has developed his own share of ideas of how micronationalism should or ought to be... I like seeing specialization. I think it's awesome to have a micronation that people contribute to by doing what they are best at. Take me for instance: It's not like I don't like dabbling at writing, or even starting a graphics program to fix a couple of pixels here and there, but I mostly prefer to spend most of the time I put into contributing to micronationalism on the technical side of things. It's what's fun for me and it's what's best for the rest of us. Others specialise in different areas. Some might do journalism, some have the patience and vision to actually keep the ShireWiki well-formatted and up-to-date and nice, some do writing, some come up with ideas for collaboration... at best it's like having a specially chosen team to build an awesome micronation :)

So, with that said... you've done some pretty nice work on heraldry, no? So I was just thinking... why not ask people if they happen to have specific, uh, heraldic needs, for you to sink your creative teeth into? Then if you notice some deficiency in the Lawbook that ought to be fixed, some law that we really ought to have - and propose a bill to correct that. I mean, that's how *I* approach the legal system, and it's worked out reasonably well for me so far :)

What Ari said*. It always works best when you play your strengths. I imagine this would be interesting in some zany way in Gralus (someone would find a way to turn it into one conflict or another, maybe start a war over it), and, if I remember correctly, being a gralan citizen leaves you with another playground more suited to your creativity in a more in-character setting.

*except in my case, I've proven to serve no practical propose :p
