I like Erik when he posts long stuff. He manages to come across as wise.

But I'm not entirely sure I agree here. Yeah, the chat just allows people to reveal natural dickishness at a faster rate. But it does it nonlinearly, so that increasing the dickishness speed causes a chain reaction and brings out dickishness that never would have existed otherwise,. A few people start all laughing at each other's trolling and vulgarity and realizing they can gang up on anyone who tries to call them out on it, and then they become a clique, and then that clique carries that behavior here.

We shouldn't ban the chat - we don't have the ability, and Shireroth can't go legislating what its citizens do on their own time. But we should have a low tolerance threshold for chat-like behavior here, and we should consider people's behavior in the chat when deciding who does and doesn't get respect and prestige in the country.

Oh that's interesting, I've just noticed that the situation has been massively over-analysed.

This would be correct I feel. Though Scott does have some points.

Scott, that could come across as quite brash and impolite. :no Erik is showing a more thoughtful side, which I intend to keep around for as long as possible.

I think that we're all winners, and all that matters is that we have fun! :knife But seriously, you're both right. And Khan is right too. So once again, we'll just blow past this and we'll have forgotten about it next week, which is the blessing and curse of Shireroth.

No, for the reasons you stated. Not yet, anyway.

I'm not sure how you interpreted that, but I meant it seriously.

CAN WE INSTALL A PHPBB MOD THAT RATIONS THE USE OF THE WORD "DICKISHNESS"? MAYBE LIKE THREE TIMES A WEEK WOULD WORK.

Here's the thing. For all the dickishness that you people accuse the chat of having (there's less dickishness than the accusations attribute, but still enough dickishness so I guess people could feel uncomfortable) the fact is that the only decent discussions I have had in micronations in the past year or so have been in the chat. Like when Scott and I kind of got into the nightly habit of debating some topic. It was a lot of fun and there's nothing comparable on the forums since you can't have a discussion like that one post at a time for a week instead of at real-time.

Also, some people are kind of dickish, but the fact is that they don't have time to speak and get all their words right and revise this paragraph or sentence to sound better like you do on forums. The "dickishness" that gets through is just people being people. Yeah sure sometimes we all gang up on someone like CJ, but come on, the kid had it coming. If you'd stop focusing on the negative "dickishness" of people and get to know them better, you'd find that a lot of people in this hobby are pretty cool guys. I'd never talked to Icebreaker or Hesam outside the chat room, but if I'd missed out on getting to know them there I wouldn't have gone to Chicago with them this weekend and this would have been a big loss for me.

And really, if you blacklist the chat for its dickishness, then people will just find ways to be dickish in some other way. For all of you guys that don't trust eachother and still talk all mighty, well, come on. We've been doing this for a decade now. If you haven't learned how to trust eachother, then it's never gunna happen.

P.S.: dickishness

Yes.. Dickishness is an issue. I am concerned about the dickish nature of dickishness. This dickishness as some dickish people have dickishly expounded is in no dickish way like the dickishness found it dickish nations and in the dickishness drenched depth of dickishness. Dickishnes dickishness, dickishness, and dickishness. But dickishness dickishness dickish. Do dickishness dickish... Dickishness?

No, seriously. I've had some real fun times in the chat. It's fun to tease spangle about being a softcore pornstar. His gf seems to find it funny. And I've resolved a lot of problem on there. And you can see just how bad my spelling and grammar get on there, without me checking it over.
