It's an md5sum. It's used to quickly determine whether one file is the same as another file, without revealing what the file is. Ari made some prophecy, but he doesn't want to post it now, probably because it would alter our behavior and then the prophecy might not come true. Once the prophecy has come true, he'll post a text file with the prophecy in it and ask us to run a certain program on it. If the program comes up with that same number, then that proves that he made the prophecy beforehand and didn't just invent it after the fact.

At least that's my understanding.
