Anyone Interested?

I'm getting sick of making patronisingly simple comments about magic just because few people here understand it yet. You're all intelligent enough to get NCM. So, to rectify that, I'm offering free classes on NCM. I'll cover the basics of spell creation and casting, the Astral Plane (the major difference from previous charters), common spells (including ones not in the library), their effects, good times to use, and ways to counter (should be of interest to those against magic), and basic magical unit creation. If you guys can understand NCM after that, I'll probably send the classes to Bayen as a long term resource for new magic users ... since the people I normally try and explain NCM to are used to SCM/MCM and you explain it differently to them.

So anyway, anyone interested in learning magic to use in SCIRA?

I understand it, I just don't promote it.

You do? So when I talk about placing Astral Earth in the Astral Plane you understand what that's for and how I do it, for example?

That's not what I meant. I object to the concept, not the implementation.

So what you mean is, you don't actually understand NCM, which is what I'm offering to teach?

Wait, did I just correct the Kaiser? :surprise Ignore the above sentence, your niftiness ... :knife

I think magic is sorta dumb.

Magic is, in my opinion, sort of like "organized" MN warfare and MN economies. :angry

I miss the days when invention and creativity-on-th-fly were important. :(

(Turns Erik into a lizard.) :evil

(Turns Jess into a kiaser (look it up).) :magigarp

(Turns to Andreas in confusion.) :rolleyes

(Turns into a Liquor Store.) :thumbsup

Those days, Jake, were 2007. Not that long ago (MCM was like that - you could do basically anything).

I'm interested under the idea that I need to figure out your magic system for CoD4 anyway and this seems easier than tracking you down and asking for explinations.

I'll attend the classes.

When and where?

Yay, people. I'll probably do them in .... actually, no, I'll do them in Kildare, to increase activity there. They can be part of the ANOVA. If I get time, I'll have one up tomorrow.

First lesson up. The rest will be in the same thread in Melangia. Feel free to ask questions or suggest ways to explain things better.

And you know, it's funny ... Novatainia and Toketi have slowly evolved a magic system over years to get something that suits our needs and is, we believe, fair in recwar. Within a week of discussion in Shireroth on it, I've been told it's too subtle; not subtle enough; too restrictive in recwars; too permissive in recwars; and that it's both silly; and a fundamental part of Shireroth. The only thing people can agree on in Shireroth is to disagree. :document

I'll read the lesson today.

You did say people disagree and not that any one person said any two of the conflicting things? Right?

No, nobody said two conflicting things.

In that case I think the subtle things are not subtle enough and too subtle in a restrictively permissive recwar fashion and too permissively restrictive for recwar. I think magic is a silly fundamental part of Shireroth, a fundamentally silly thing.

Can you envision that!

Maybe we can get some going in Kildare.

:D to your first sentence.

:yay: to your second. That's why I established the ANOVA's (see any Atterockian province, and/or Old Hallucination, for a description).

Second lesson up. I'll probably do these in chunks.

Well it is always nice to see something new being regulated to death.
