Operation Ruby Trout

Post by Scott of Hyperborea »

Three or four years ago, SHINE was working on a way to easily back up all the threads in the EZBoard Shireroth forum, and Ari taught me a way to do it using something called wget.

According to legend EZBoard is now in the process of deleting most of their old forums. A few places are already destroyed by them or by the great EZBoard hacking of whenever that was or by something else, but some others, like Menelmacar, seem pretty intact and I'd like to keep them.

Does Ari or anyone else still remember how we did Operation Ruby Trout?

You should be able to google how to use wget. it's a basic(ish) unix program.

EZboard is in the process of converting boards to Yuku, which in my not so humble opinion, sucketh worse than ezBoard did, which takes some work.

It seems as if they are aspiring to become a myspace wannabe.

If there is a way to back-up ezboards, I'd love to know. I've got a couple worth archiving.

Yes. EzBoards were always extremely difficult to use or indeed do anything with, ironically. Maybe we ought to back up some of the oldest EzBoard mns, like Angsax and Menelmacar- just so the deletions don't cause even more pointless external links on microwiki and shirewiki.

Jess, don't say such horrible things ... :angry
Unless he joined Uantir ... they have a King named Ari ...
The character Andreas the Wise is on indefinite leave.
However, this account still manages:
Cla'Udi - Count of Melangia
Manuel - CEO of VBNC. For all you'll ever need.
Vincent Waldgrave - Lord General of Gralus
Q - Director of SAMIN
Duke Mel'Kat - Air Pirate, Melangian, and Duke of the Flying Duchy of Glanurchy

And references may be made to Vur'Alm Xei'Bôn (a Nelagan Micron of undisclosed purpose).
