Conlang

Post by Braden Indianensis »

So, recently, I've been working on a conlang, which mixes Romance and Germanic languages..mostly Italian and German, but I use Latin whenever I can. I thought I'd show what I've worked out to you guys to see what you think.

Some sample nouns:

Singular: Plural: English:
Caund.............................Caunden...............Dog/Dogs
Felitze.............................Felitzen................Cat/Cats
Arbaum...........................Arbaumen............Tree/Trees
Chartum..........................Chartumen...........Paper/Papers
Homme............................Hommen..............Man/Men

Hopefully this won't come out all mangled.

It wouldn't matter if you could, Chris, because you're a little punk, and anyway, I create far better portmanteaux than you. Truveritely, I do.

Don't wag your finger at me, Bill. I apologize for nothing. Not that I need to, as I was only being facetious (actually, since "facetious" means "pleasantly humorous or jocular" you could draw your own conclusions about whether or not I actually was, but that's not the point.)

My true self does come out, but there isn't a whole lot of 'wanting' for anything involved (except maybe the comfort that can be found only between the folds of the enveloping dark vast---)

I seriously do get tired of conlangs which seem constantly to revolve around the IE centum group. If you're going to make a language that sounds like German...why not just LEARN GERMAN! Think out of the box and create something totally CRAZY!!!!

Do it. Hell, I dare you to leave IE in the dust entirely, if you can!

Yes, by all means. Do something really crazy, like mixing Chinese with Coptic and Basque.

Bes alti gün sonra geldi
Kara Fatma-i gazi
Nisalar kahramani, seref-razi

Bes alti yüz kisiyle geldi o an,
Kamusu hep süvari-i namdaran.

Onlarin nami var Türkmen ilinde
Kiliç belinde, kargi yollarinda.

Onlar çok kirdi düsman, döktü kanin
Sehid oldu karindasi nisanun.

O hatun kendi dahi yaralandi
Onuldu yarasi hos varlandi.

Ömer pasa olup Sumn-da kaim
Onlara gönderir cephane daim.

It could sound slightly more exotic, but it's okay. Question, though... is there a particular reason why the plural of "Caund" drops the "d"? Is that a typo, or is it a rule of the language?

It must be a typo, because it doesn't seem consistent with the rest if I drop the D..change to reflect this..

*Shrugs* There was no reason it couldn't've been a linguistic rule... other languages have done things much more inconsistent than that. But whatever works.

I've been trying to make a conlang for Matbaa, using bits of Syriac, Turkish, and Armenian.
