Re: A Farewell Service for Lady Carol
That was quite beautiful. Thank you very much, and I'm sure my mom would have loved it.

Oh Greg, I'm so sorry you were at work and driving when you heard. Good boss for sending you home!
I know my mom cared deeply for you.

Re: Farewell, beloved Lady Carol
Thank you, everyone, for your kind words. It is very comforting to know how much she was loved, and to hear others describe the wonderful person I knew. We are having a private family burial this week, and a memorial service on Saturday, January 9 at 1pm in Fremont, California. We wanted to wait unt...

Re: Lady Carol Day
Her birthday is October 28th, 1949. This year she turned 60.
I can hardly put into words just how touching all of these responses have been. I find it very comforting to know just how much she was loved, and what a wonderful influence she was here.

Farewell, beloved Lady Carol
Tonight, we mourn the passing of our most beloved Lady Carol, Hypatia's Mom. My mom passed away suddenly this evening from respiratory arrest. Many of you are aware that she had been in the hospital or nursing homes for 14 solid months, with many ups and downs. Recently she had been having more diff...

Re: Update on Lady Carol
Merry Christmas, everybody! :) :moose :moose :moose :moose :moose :moose :moose :moose I wanted to let everyone know that my mom is doing much better, and continues to heal at a good rate. She is still stuck in bed, but her healing process has been going beautifully, and her pain level continues to ...

Re: Update on Lady Carol
Well, she had been able to walk around the house well enough before she went to the hospital, with a simple walker for balance. It was just very, very difficult for her to do anything resembling distance, and using a wheelchair is much easier on outings than her sitting walker is, especially with no...

Update on Lady Carol
I have VERY good news for everyone who has been concerned about my mom. She was transferred a few weeks ago to a long-term acute care hospital in San Leandro (Kindred Hospital SF). They are more specialized in dealing with conditions that require intensive hospital-level care for longer than most ho...

Re: Perhaps taking a leave of 'absence
UPDATE This is a MUCH better update than my last. Thank goodness. Mom has been getting excellent care at our local hospital, and her surgeons are now pretty much convinced she actually will recover fully. Her wounds have been healing well, and the progression (of necrotic tissue) her first surgeon s...

Re: Perhaps taking a leave of 'absence
UPDATE Ok, this is a harder update to make. Mom's condition is not good. [[[Skip gory details if you want to]]] She is in the hospital for treatment of a couple of severe wounds that became infected. They are basically gigantic bedsores that developed because she was in so much pain that her comfort...

Re: Perhaps taking a leave of 'absence
Update! There isn't much to update, except that my mom is still in the hospital, healing (very) slowly and receiving the care she needs. Her major challenges still include pain management, and she continues to appreciate everyone's prayers and good wishes. There have not been any new "scares" or dra...

Re: Perhaps taking a leave of 'absence
Ok, further update. Mom's condition is more stable today, and she has been moved out of the ICU, though they are still monitoring her a bit more than they were before. Her pain level seems mostly under control today, though she's definitely not what I'd call "comfortable". She is doing way better th...

In all seriousness (which seems mighty out of place in this thread...), I am still Duchess of Kildare and would like to stay in my position. I'm not entirely sure of my population, but I know I have a couple of people at least. Any other positions will have to wait at least a month or so until I'm m...

Congratulations, Erik, and I'm sure you'll do a great job! Sorry for my lack of posting the last week or so since abdicating. I was at a convention for about 5 days and then promptly got sick when I got home (a nasty chest cold from my friend, who was there). I was away again this weekend, and now i...

Abdication
After a rather tumultuous reign, the time has come for me to step down as Kaiseress in favor of another. During my reign, we saw our nation debate dissolution, wallow in despair over our own inactivity and technical disasters, and somehow, through persverence, stubbornness, or perhaps sheer denial, ...

I'm back, don't worry
Sorry for the absence. Things have been crazy the last few weeks, and before that there really wasn't any activity or anything to speak of. No, I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, nor have I abandoned hope for Shireroth. I have no problem handing the throne over to someone else at this point...

I'm going to be posting something longer in a minute (about being back, etc.), but I would like to say for the record that I did NOT delete the lawbook thread. I can't even find that little island above Benacia, so could you provide a larger map of the region in question? It's too small for me to get much context on just what part of the world we're talking about? If it's only a tiny bit of our territory, and not occupied currently or steeped in history, I...

I have no objections to Jonas being Praetor, as I believe we can reasonably expect Wolvin to keep up his recent record of very low activity. If Wolvin would like to appeal this decision, he can have his job back if he shows up within the next week to claim it. Until then, congratulations, Jonas! By ...

Admins
Do we know who our admins are? Who are the full admins, and who are just limited admins? I want to get to the bottom of this, so if you are an admin or know who one is, please post here. I really want to get this sorted out, because we're suffering somewhat from a lack of admin powers. Most obviousl...
