The Five Woes were composed and published by Yvain Wintersong between 3033 and 3037 ASC (25-28 November 2007) as part of the swift development of the Duchy of Brookshire and the culture of Goldshire and Ynnraile specifically during that period. Each part of the chronological cycle focuses on a different ill or invasion imposed on Goldshire: Treesian colonization, Khaz Modani exploitation, Mercajan oppression, Rrakanychan's wrath, and Brookshirean imperialism. The work forms an important part of the diverse mythology and prehistory of Benacia as an alternative to the Raynorian narrative put forward by SSHIT. It therefore resonates with modern Shireroth's focus on subdivision autonomy rather than centralised Imperial authority.

Current Events NEW KAISER ADDRESSES THE NATION Yesterday Raynor XII gave a formal address. My fellow Shirithians, Bastionians, and to Micras at Large, I send greetings- The Imperial Republic stands again at a crossroads. We have crossed many roads, indeed, since our august forebearer Raynor I founded the state. I have taken the regnal name “Raynor” to remind the nation and myself of the glorious-and at time tragic- history we are the heirs to, and the responsibility and opportunity that it represents. On my return, I found the Landsraad voting by the barest margin to save the Imperial Republic from dissolution, of all things! That so many of our people wished to euthanize the nation- or did not care enough to stand against such a fate caused me disappointment, and intense sadness that a national death-wish had such a hold on so many. I was in that moment that I resolve to dedicate myself to the resurrection of the national spirit. Little did I know that I was to be the next Kaiser. It is certain to me now that the Gods Themselves have willed this! I found that the nation had been cloven, and that Kildare, the same Kildare that had nurtured and preserved the spirit of Shireroth through the time of the House crisis, had broken away -and then been conquered. While I mourn the loss of Kildare, I rejoice in the revival in Elwynn, and urge Goldshire and Lichbrook to gain inspiration from them and from their respective traditons. Whereas Kildare may not be restored to us in the near term at least, the Imperial Republic is not limited to such an endeavour. The Green of Micras is huge, and we have an historic and moral claim to much of it. Like Sakat, we have more than two arms, and can grow more! We have launched the NETT system into orbit, and it has already slashed the cost of electric power in many parts of Shireroth. We intend to build more ground stations and bring cheap, clean power to all corners of the Imperial Republic. Cheap power in Yardistan has enabled us to reopen the historic shipyards. The Kaise Mors V has been refurbished, and shall serve as my personal flagship. The land forces and air forces shall also be expanded and modernized. I ask you all to submit names for our new and updated fleet that represent our culture and history. A Kaiser can do much, but the true life of the nation flows from you. Opportunities abound in the Imperial States and the Imperial Dominions. Opportunities exist in Imperial service. The bank and other financial institutions still exist, and are available for the expression of your creativity. The Bureau of Cartography is open for business, and I'm sure they would appreciate your contributions. To the States -The Golden Mango Throne has no designs on your creations, culture, or autonomy, and will support those with full vigour. To those in the Dominions- may you grow and prosper, and join the ranks of the states. A new city is rising in the Skyla Isles which shall evidence our resilience and fortitude. To Bastion and Micras at Large- Shireroth desires naught from you but peace and fellowship. And for those who may desire deeper communion, Shireoth is the home of many peoples and cultures, and can be the home of more, if you so desire. And finally, to those wandering in the wilderness, those of you lost and homeless, those of you who desire to make and build, come home.
