What is the root of 'Cedrism' and 'Cedrist'?
Yes... I'm trying to figure out the root of these words: Cedrist and Cedrism. The etymology that is. Does anyone know?

It comes from waaay back in the old days, when Erik and Nick used to sacrifice citrus fruits to the gods. "Cedr" was the De'Enetet (an old Shirerithian language) word for citrus.

Why... why would this religion be named after the citrus?

I've been told by Erik over gmail chat that I'm taking all the mystery out of the Universe, so instead of answering your question, I will...*suddenly waves his cloak in a dramatic manner, and disappears in a puff of orange smoke, leaving behind only a strange, 17-petalled flower, a white powder that evaporates almost instantly, and a device that looks sort of like an octahedral clock.*

Mystery is good, except where it's meaningless.

It's all meaningless. That's the point.

Hey, if Scott is lazy, then I can be lazy, too. Just read Joy in the Merely Real

And there's me thinking it was all named after some guy called Cedric.

Cedric is a friend of me, and he never told me that he gave his name to a religion.
From a distance I'm concerned about the rampant lawyerism manifesting itself in Shireroth currently. A simple Kaiserial slap on the wrist or censure by the community should suffice. - Jacobus Loki

I didn't get Joy in the Merely Real, but my comment was tongue-in-cheek.
(Replace "Joy in the Merely Real" with the title of any Overcoming Bias article, or perhaps just "Overcoming Bias", and I could use this post as a template.)
All mystery's meaningless... like I think Erik said... though he may have been referring to Cedrism.
Edit: Though let me point out, I think that something without meaning can have meaning due to its lack of meaning. Say, if something that was meaningless was given meaning by someone who didn't understand - the fact that it was meaningless to start with means that it's lack of meaning is... poignant. I mean.
And since we're on the topic of Overcoming Bias, is the name a joke I don't get? I find it hard to tell because I can't read most of the articles.

And all this time I thought it had to do with trees!
Cedrist > Cedar-ist > Tree > Malarbor.
But citrus grows on trees, so I'm content.
