I have a solution!

Post by Braden Indianensis »

Why don't both candidates for the Kaisership make genealogical charts showing their descent from Raynor I., and any other significant claims to the Throne they might have, and then have the Landsraad or a special court appointed by that body determine which claim is better/more interesting?

That doesn't effectively demonstrate who would be better for the job, but better for, I dunno, Genealogical chart making. Although I did post a rather long message in the Landsraad Front Gate about my intentions. It's a bit of a read, but it gives the nation an idea of where I'm going with this.

Yep. Although the geneaological idea is interesting, it does stink of Nepotism.
Nepotism= Bad. Shireroth= Good.
Therefore Goodness= No nepotism.

as interesting as the genealogical charts might be, i mean, HECK, why not, thatd be nifty, but i think its been established Loki II has a somewhat more established claim through blood alone, to the mango throne (ooh rhymed in my head)

thats never been a FOOLproof means of naming a leader in my opinion, so as amusing as it may be i dont see how it would help clear up who is to be next kaiser.

Well, it is a monarchy; monarchs aren't required to be especially qualified, as the system is based on birth instead of actual merit.

Perhaps the Landsraad could appoint a committee of notable and intelligent Shirithians, as well as some people from impartial third-parties, to review the claims and qualifications of both candidates? I'd be happy to assist in whatever way I can.

Absolutely not. I'd rather meddle in your affairs while participating in a nation I love, Antica. Besides, the Shirithian political system is one I don't really agree with, but it would be against my principles to try and change it. Antica's a democracy, and I like democracy.

I do think a commission of notables and non-affiliates would be the best way to choose the next Kaiser. I have a legal precedent! After the death of Alexander III, King of Scots, and the subsequent death of his granddaughter, Margaret of Norway, on her voyage to Scotland, the Scottish nobles asked Edward I of England to come and arbitrate between the two main competitors for the throne: Robert Bruce and John Balliol. Of course, I won't ask to be made Lord Paramount of Shireroth or ask for homage or anything like that.

It might be a committee of nine: three Shirithian notables picked by Loki, three picked by Jayatar, and three foreign notables which the Prophet or myself might select. Preferably, the Shirithians would all hold no rank lower than Baron, or else be an extremely senior citizen having only recently lost nobility; the foreigners would all have to be very experienced and noted micronationalists. The whole committee might be a court which the Landsraad could call into existence whenever it was necessary, and its findings would have to meet with the approval of the Gods.

Seems a bit arbitrary and there should be no reason why foreign leaders should choose Shireroths Kaiser. I'd prefer waiting until we get the decision in from all active Shirerothians, see where the division is, and then negotiate a solution governed by senior Shirerothians. Or we could continue on forever like this, Jacobus could be known as the "Avignon Kaiser" for instance.

I think Loki is of the line of Grifos a branch from Metzler Doran is a branch of Raynor, but much newer. so honestly.. it would be unclear who would be Kaiser by geneology. *looks at the chart on his wall(not joking)* Yeah... it's not that clear...

I need to update that chart.. it's 2000ASC out of date. Only goes to about 1600ASC.

We all know how well Edward I (Longshanks) did in his "diplomacy" in Scotland. Remember the uprising of the Scots against English oppression, the massacres, and the imposition of English rule. I think that bringing in foreigners to settle things is a disastrous idea.

The proposal is clever, and I'm sure well thought out, but I prefer to wait for a consensus, or a Rayonrite Coup.

As far as the Avignon comment, who is Rome and who is Avignon will most likely be judged by history. :smashy

Well, if you were to ask my humble opinion, we could resolve this in a minute.

I like your style Jacobus, if I wasn't smiling at you with a knife behind my back, I might well have supported you had I known you had such Babkhan virtue prior to my candidacy. I believe when all is said and done, we'll have some excellent opportunity for a discussion about micras.

Lert's face it--you two seem pretty equally matched in both wit and guile. Whichever of you wins this particular contest will make for a very interesting Kaiser. And as the Chinese saying goes--"May you live in interesting times." This will prove, I believe, to be very interesting, indeed.
