Antican History 101: Lesson 1
Lesson One:
Forging a Nation
The various regions and clans of Antica were formally united on 17 June, of the 2003rd year of the Common Era, by Delphi Augustus and Octavius Me, both great princes of powerful Antican houses.
They instituted a form of government known as "Dinarchialism," that is, absolute rule by two leaders of equal power. Also, both Dinarchs were commanders-in-chief of one
of the two Antican military services (the Army and Navy.)
Many nations mocked Antica in its infancy, due to the fact that it had declared war on the Theocracy of Mediterranea (and expected said war to be fought in the arena of a computer game), and had spies captured in the Theocracy as well as in the SRA. As per usual, Delphi did the unexpected, and, instead of whimpering like a small girl
named Susan, issued a defiant statement regarding espionage.
After these first growing pains. Antica began to become more
democratic--and more nationalistic, opening the Senate to all citizens, allowing elections, and adopting a single-citizenship policy for Antica proper. However, Antica´s trials were just starting, as you shall see in our next lesson.

I suggest you keep your browsers locked on these lessons if you intend to pass this class (not that it matters) because your test over Lessons One and Two (still to come) will be held on Saturday, January 14th. CLASS DISMISSED!

OK, so, that thing about the test was a joke. Obviously. Not that it matters because no one seems to be around to take this class anyhow. It would be courteous of a few of you fine people to at least pretend to be somewhat interested, although I realize it will be quite an act.

I'm sorry. I read the lesson but I didn't have any particular comments. Thank you for providing it, and I am very much awaiting the next one. From where are you getting your information?
If I absolutely must comment on something, the word in your signature should be "inveniam" rather than "enveniam". You have good taste; that's one of my favorite Latin phrases too, and used to be the motto of Audentior, the micronation I helped found.

Thank you for your very gracious comments. As a matter of fact, my main source is Antica's microwiki. Perhaps I should add that somewhere. Oh wait, I just did!
I just hope it meets Delphi's standards. After all, being the co-founder and former Dinarch, his approval is the very key to the legitamacy of this history.

Scott, perhaps you or Delphi could help me with a problem I'm having. Was the territory of Antica before our cession to Shireroth just the area of Platea? Or was it larger? The reason I need to know is because I'm planning on writing a fictional history of Antica before the date I set as the "formal unification," and I'm planning to draw a map simply of Antica (for the purpose of organizing my own thoughts) showing placement of mountains, desert, forest, etc.

Baldwin, I can help you out a bit soon, but as you well know I've got a ton of stuff I'm working on (and another project I took on yesterday), so I'm a bit swamped. I wrote the original article for the Dinarchy on the microwiki, so I can approve of the stuff there for the most part, but if you'd like to ask me any questions at all (I encourage you to, I'll answer you well), just email me. My email's on my board profile.

Thanks, I may do that. However, you have far more important things to do, so don't feel obligated to answr immediately or to post on this class often.

Well we had a few different plots of land over time, with Korhal and Madland joining and leaving us, but for some reason the MCS archives are incomplete, which would lead me to have to go dig up other sectional maps that we may (or may not) have dummied up.

Dinarchy of Antica at its greatest size.
EDIT: I had to take the image down... it was just... too big.

Can someone go into the war in more detail? For instance I am interested in some of the following questions: How the spies got caught, and what the spies tried to do? What computer game was the war going to be fought? Why were those countries picked out for the war? What did Antican leadership feel would be gained from war? What was the population at the time of the war?
The spies were caught one day when I posted in a thread in Mediterranea where my spy was talking, by accident, but I was logged in to my "Chancellor Delphi of Antica" account. I tried to fix it by editing it to a sarcastic comment from what he was supposed to say, and then had the spy respond. Unfortunately, they noticed the IPs right next to each other. How the spies got caught, and what the spies tried to do?
Age of Empires II. We didn't quite understand the whole war thing at the time, obviously. We were laughed out of there. What computer game was the war going to be fought?
Well, the war was only for Mediterranea, and, because we were insulted that we couldn't get onto PHPMX, and we associated Mediterranea with Sander (equated them, basically), and one afternoon when I got back from school, I delivered the declaration of war, and was promptly lauged out and denounced. Why were those countries picked out for the war?
I'm not entirely sure now, but I think we figured we'd gain some face, though I'm not sure we thought about it much beyond that it'd probably be a good fun idea to declare war. What did Antican leadership feel would be gained from war?
I think it was... 3 or 4. We had myself, Octavius, Chuck, and this dude called Brian Pierce, I think, maybe. What was the population at the time of the war?

Thanks for the answers I hope you don't mind if I have a few more...
How were you able to improve your foreign relations after the incident? And what the process like in which your foreign relations normalized? By that question I mean as a largely discredited nation, how were you able to repair your relations and grow stronger in spite of such an incident?

BECAUSE WE WERE THE F*CKIN' DINARCHY OF F*CKIN' ANTICA, BITCH!
[smacks self across face.]
Well, actually, our foreign relations have never been exactly what you'd call "normal," at least, they weren't the whole time I was there. And as far as us regaining face, it had a lot, I think, to do with us simply becoming more mature and respected in the micronational world, no longer mere pledgers being disciplined.

It's true that I was with the Dinarchy for a very short time, but I did remain loyal to the bitter end(?), and that explains why I was given Kaikias, the smallest county in Antica, and that's totally just and fair....I'm not bitter..
