I will need help calculating the final cost, so please forgive any flaws.

Yardistani Navy
~1st Expeditionary Strike Group

-Landing Helicopter Assault Ship, Yardistan Class (200erb, 940erb total)
-----YS Yardistan (LHA-1)
--------6x Harrier Attack aircrafts (540)
--------4x Attack Helicopters (40)
--------12x Osprey tiltrotor helicopters (120)
--------4x Heavy Lift helicopters (40)
--------

-Landing Platform Dock, So-Sara Class (200erb, 810erb toal)
-----YS So-Sara (LPD-1)
--------2x LCAC's (400)
--------14 Expeditionary Fighting Vehicles (210)
(I classified them as armored personell carriers)

-Landing Platform Dock , Amity Class (200erb, 1000erb total)
-----YS Amity (LSD-1)
--------4x LCAC's (800)

-Heavy Cruiser, Mirioth Class (600erb)
-----YS Mirioth (CG-1)
(I do get missles with this, yeah? I just looked at the cost of Mike Fors Heavy Cruiser)

-Guided Missile Destroyer, Naudia'Diva Class (600erb)
-----YS Naudia'Diva (DDG-1)
(same question?)

-Guided Missile Frigate, Absentia Class (600erb)
-----YS Absentia (FFG-1)
(same question?)

-General-Purpose Fast Attack Submarine, Agningas Class (180erb)
----- YS Agningas (SSN-1)

TOTAL NAVY COST: 4730erb

I'll need 2000 Marines as well... how much would that be?

TOTAL MARINE COST: 1080erb

Is this correct, or am I crazy? Help!

Rather depends what sort of missiles you are referring to. Point defence anti-missile & anti-air missiles are included gratis, anti-ship missiles with a range of less than 1000 km were a grey area now also deemed to be gratis. Cruise missiles and the like have to be purchased separately.

That cuts down on cost, for sure. Isn't the cost a bit high though anyway? the entire real life USMC couldn't even be bought by the imperial crown account.

Remember in an international war you only get 25000 points.

Greg, Depending on who/why you are fighting, Monty Crisco may be able to help finance you.

Andreas: I know, but the size of these armies are entirely unrealistic for the size of the duchies. As evidence, I bring my argument from my 'Yardistani Militia Topic'.
I've estimated the entire population of yardistan to be about 5,270,000 citizens (yes, I did the estimations on paper with square mileage versus density on an island by island basis), and through more measurements found that the Unites States of America uses about three percent of it's population for active duty in a military branch. Using this as a basis for our own population, I decided that a reasonable number would be about 100,000 to 150,000 active duty personnel.
Now, granted my math was WAY off for population. There are way more than 5 million people in Yardistan, especially considering how huge each island is (anywhere between 35,000 square miles and 77,000 square miles). For comparison, North Carolina (where I live) is 53,000 square miles, and has almost 10 million. I tried finding an analog for Australia to give you a comparison, but their states are huge. :D

Anyway, my math about 3 pecent of the population was correct though. Yardistan should realisticly have at *least* 100,000 personnel in the military. I can barely afford to staff a single rifle regiment of 2000! I understand that we should earn them, right? An army you haven't worked towards having means less to you sure, but at this rate i'd be working another several years to afford a reasonable number.

If you could address my concerns, I would be appreciative. Thanks!

edit: Erik: Are you suggesting something... vaguely illegal?? ;)

Check your Duchy. Monty Crisco has made an offer.

But not all personnel are combat personnel. Many are support, logistic, medical, technical...etc.

Greg - it shouldn't just be the Duke who has to fund it ... If you're saying a Duchy should have 100 000, the first thing I think is 'yes, 4 people in a Duchy would have an army of 100 000 between them ... so get 4 people to pay 5000 each ...'

*poke* Was my estimation correct though?

I live in Australia, I'm not the person to ask about what proportion of the population should be in the military. :p

I live in America. Don't waste money on troops, just buy nukes and ICBMs.

Australia has a total population of 22 million, and an active military of 53,000. That's less than 1%. Alot less.

At any rate, That's still more than what we can afford.
