Small Treaty of Non-Aggression

1. Any nation who has signed the General Membership Treaty of the Small Commonwealth may sign this treaty at any time, provided they are not currently in a state of open conflict with any current signatory.

2. All signatory nations shall not engage in any hostile or aggressive action toward any other signatory nation.

3. If there is a dispute between signatory nations they will bring it before an agreed upon neutral third party for arbitration. If no third party can be agreed upon the matter shall be arbitrated by the General Assembly.

4. Upon giving notice, any signatory nation may exit this treaty.

5. This treaty may be amended by a 3/4ths majority of signatory nations.

Will this forbid friendly recwars amongst commonwealth nations? Or does "hostile" imply we are not talking about a little friendly civil war among friends?

That's a good question. I don't know. I'm from a time before recwars when wars were real... Should we add stipulations to this treaty for recwars? or make another treaty that acts as a wrapper for some recwar ruleset... etc..

*moves from other thread*
I kinda like the idea of the Commonwealth being an important, standard setting, sector uniting YAMO. In that regard, I think a treaty for effectively declaring oneself a "friendly recwar nation" would be good.
Personally, I think of friendly recwar nation as one that can recwar relatively competently, write decent backstory, doesn't push disputes too far, and, most importantly, can maintain at least polite cordiality with other participants even if one is opposed to them. I'd also like to add "doesn't commit war crimes wontonly" but I know some oppose that particular suggestion. Anyway, that sort of treaty would basically say that those nations are willing to recwar eachother for fun and joint story telling and not take the result too seriously OOC. While a mutual support treaty would still have it's place for nations outside such a treaty that attack a commonwealth member (though if we try to get most of Micras involved there won't be many of them), the "friendly recwar" treaty would allow for friendly recwars between members. It could even contain a clause within it saying such nations will not attack eachother in anger - essentially non-agression.

My rambling making much sense?

Yes. Would you be willing to put forth this treaty(in a new thread) in at least an outline form. Then I can fill in the details if you don't want.

Much like Erik, I'm from a time before recwars and immediately saw this treaty as something not to do with recwars. The term "recwar" comes from "recreational war", after all. They're all in good fun. But there's nothing pleasent about flooding forums with spam cannons, dropping unstable HTML bombs that crash browsers and force computer restarts, and hacking and deleting entire sites. Just because it doesn't happen that often anymore doesn't mean we should ignore the possibilities.

This treaty in principle is both good and necessary. I think the best solution to the recwar issue would be to simply add a line into this one that states that it has nothing to do with recwars at all.

Removed the word 'at' from number 4. Looked odd. :document
