malarbor Malarbor Says: All hail Kaiser...oh gods, are you really going to make me say it? Yes? All hail Kaiser *sigh* B'caw I, who took the throne last week after the death of Kaiser Ikol. Before the old Kaiser died he managed to dissolve House Tessier-Ashpool and re-establish the Duchies, starting a long political discussion over the form those Duchies would take and an associated Landsraad law.

World cup fever is gripping the nation - or at least it would be if we hadn't been eliminated in the qualifiers early last month without anyone really noticing. But that's okay, because we have our own totally Shirerithian and therefore much better football league now, with four teams (apply here for a team of your own).

Hjalpta yatu að se zxeli! Malarbor demands it! Okay, technically it means "The sheep walked away from the leg", which isn't imperative and doesn't really make sense, but it sure sounds nifty. Go check out the current draft of Praeta Sxirothes for more.

Welcome back to potential new citizen Elliot Markham, and congratulations to potential new MiniImNat Edgard and a bunch of Thane-Palatines.

I have a suggestion. Perhaps we should move the Small Commonwealth to the MCS forum? That would generate more traffic to the SC as well as remove any bad associations to Shireroth.

And then you get interference of people who don't want to have anything to do with it, except maybe to criticise it.

The SC is dead at the moment. This would generate traffic.

Bad traffic, yes.

It's been talked about before, but I think it might be worth doing this time. The SC really does need the help.

Do any of the representatives from other nations have opinions on this?

No objection. I can't do any harm, can it?

It can't make the SC more inactive at least. Kind of hard to do...

Hhmmm. My biggest fear is that, like I said, there will be people who don't want to have anything to do with it, but will try to ruin it by posting negative comments.

Well several MCS admins in the discussion forum recently stated categorically that the MCS has no links with the cultural or political development of its member nations. I guess the SC therefore has no place on the MCS' boards.

As the Gralan rep I would support the SC remaining on Shireroth, not MCS. This way we know that the board is managed by the members, not an organisation which may choose to stop hosting us or the like. Also, I suspect that activity, or lack thereof, is due to the SC and not it's publicity. The SC should only really have activity when we're discussing new treaties and getting new members. We don't expect a constant stream of activity; hence we're hosted by a member and not with our own forum.

That, and I agree with the likelyhood of more naysayers on the MCS.

Yes. but members need to pay attention. When I was Primate I tried to fix up the voting rules, and no one voted. Which is perhaps the real issue, not activity.

The members aren't going to pay attention because they don't need to pay attention. We set up the SC to be unobtrusive, and that's exactly what it is. It's so unobtrusive that once you sign a few treaties you never need to come back here again.

But that isn't a bad thing, is it?

It is a bad thing, since due to quorum rules it keeps the rest of the SC from functioning when the reps are inactive. There's a few possible solutions I can come up with: You could accept that since it's just a treaty organisation anyway there isn't really any need for quorum rules, or you could relax the quorum rules, or you could tell all the reps to click on that nice "subscribe forum" link at the commonwealth assembly (*), or whatever... they all start with someone going around emailing all the reps to invite them in, though.

(*) I mean, in case you haven't noticed, we have this thing called technology that can be used to solve many problems. You don't necessarily need to change the way you act if there's a technological solution to make things work out.

I echo Ari and Harvey's comments about member activity.

Well, whatever it was that caused Erik's voting rule changes to fail because people weren't voting.

I'm really sorry that I really suck at Primating at the moment. I've been really busy with my study and social life. I'd understand if you would like someone else to be Primate and would be so polite to step out of the way and give this position to someone that can do something about the inactivity of the Small Commonwealth. I'd really like to do it if I had more time, since I like the idea of the SC, but I'm afraid I don't have so much time anymore.

My opinion about the change to the MCS forums is that it would not solve the problem that we face at this moment. It is true that more people would see the SC, but a lot of the people that daily visit the MCS forums already know about the SC. Most of them also have an opinion about the SC or have advised (or pushed, whatever you like ;) ) a nation they are citizen of to become a member. I personally think that the SC is best off at the Shirerithian forums. If you take a look at the representatives you will notice that over half of them is a citizen of Shireroth. This keeps the representatives coming to the forums of the SC, since they will visit the Shirerithian forums. The inactivity isn't due to the fact that we are stationed at the Shirerithian forums.

I do back the idea of having voting rules to keep everything organized.

I think we've got a few options:

a) Lay the SC to rest (if that's something we choose for, I propose that the SCUE will be continued).
b) Do nothing.
c) Kick every member nations ass and start thinking about a solution, together with all the members.
d) Think about a solution with the people that share their thoughts at this forum.

I dislike options a and b and think that options c and d can work out. I just lack time.

By the way: Harvey left? :o That's another serious blow for the SC. I don't see another Secundus coming along soon. Damn.

He hasn't left. He's on LOA from Shireroth, but still Secundus.
