Bank mod

Post by CJ Miller »

Was the bank mod custom-made or off the shelf?

Furthermore, is it possible to transfer my account to Safiria?

To the first question, I must ask "Which mod."

To the second question, the answer is "Only if Safiria is a member of the SCUE."
The character Andreas the Wise is on indefinite leave.
However, this account still manages:
Cla'Udi - Count of Melangia
Manuel - CEO of VBNC. For all you'll ever need.
Vincent Waldgrave - Lord General of Gralus
Q - Director of SAMIN
Duke Mel'Kat - Air Pirate, Melangian, and Duke of the Flying Duchy of Glanurchy

And references may be made to Vur'Alm Xei'Bôn (a Nelagan Micron of undisclosed purpose).

The bank itself is not a mod of anything. It's original software.

You still have to be voted in by the Assembly.

As of a few minutes ago... the SCUE doesn't require the GM treaty any longer. He just need to ask you join the SCUE now.

I would join the Unified Economy, but the Safirian lire is pegged to gold in such a way that it would equal about 4 SCUE units.

CJ.. that makes no sense.. since the SCUE isn't pegged to anything at all. So there can't possible be an comparison to get that figure from.

(OOC, the Safirian lire = 1/300 of an ounce of gold, which means 1 £ = about US$4. Since the United States does not exist in this universe, I found it easy to s/United States dollars/SCUE units/.)

Out of curiosity, do you actually have the gold? At one point in Jasonia I wanted to get Jasonia's currency actually backed by about $200 in silver stocks, mostly just to say that it was backed by something real and not to actually give out any stock. My mother thought it was wiser to invest in Euros, I told her to stay the heck out of my life (the default response to a parent when you're a teenager, I suppose,) there was some yelling and in the end I didn't end up with any stock. But of course the Euro has like doubled in price or more since then so I guess she was wiser than I. Oh well.

In any event, I always thought the concept of backing micronational treasuries with actual value was a nifty idea.

(OOC, I haven't the gold since there exist IC approximately 500 billion lire and no one regular person can afford to buy that much gold.)

Okay, so how can you have it pegged to 1/300 of an ounce of gold then?

But it's still fiat money if you don't have any gold to back it up.

My general philosophy is that when IC stuff prevents you from doing OOC stuff you'd actually want to do, such as this tie to gold preventing you from joining the SCUE, then something should give. I'm also a little iffy on why it even prevents you from joining the SCUE in the first place. Even if 1 £ = about US$4, it's not like US$1 = 1... uh... SCUEbuck. We don't know what the price of gold is on Micras.

While obviously not a mod itself, the bank can have mods, as I well know, from my development of the Casino mod.

And as for exchange rates, the thought of being able to buy SCUE units with American dollars frankly does have some appeal to me. I mean, I don't know who would get the dollars, perhaps the Small Commonwealth treasury, but to increase my wealth by that means might be desirable. It would depend probably on what ventures in which I might want to engage.

The Erb was backed by copper once. and about $34 I still have set aside in my closet.

In both cases it was a silly idea. It caused problems.

In the end I concluded you cannot attach micronational things to real life things. You will always lose. The best we could hope to be is intensely poor by all standards.

So what should one troy ounce of gold equal in SCUE units?

I suggest ¤300.

Absolutely nothing. The SCUE is not pegged meaninglessly to a Macro-national currency.

If you really wanted you could attempt to work out some IC price of gold in SCUE currency, but it's not pegged to that.

Fully agree not not binding the SCUE unit to anything in particular.
