Militias and the Imperial Army..

Post by Kaiser Mors V »

so... we in theory.. have an official Imperial Army, run by the MoMA and loyal to the Kaiser directly..

Then we have nobles and their personal Militias...

Two separate militaries in one nation... I was pondering replacing the now dead Imperial Army with the Militias.. which would make all counts commanders over their county militias.. Barons over their militias and the counts under them... and Dukes in the same manner...

This would require nobles to develop their militias in some way... and allow for us to organize them into a military structure...

I like this a lot... I guess this would place the MoMA between the Kaiser and the Dukes in the military command structure, making zir job to organise and command the military.

What are our limits, technology-wise?

They depend on the war, not on the nation... I'd guess that most would accept modern technology and technology currently in development, but really it's your call how far you want to go.

International ones tend to be current technology as the limit, and no WMD's.
In the nation, well, they're open to negotiation ...

My advice is to be flexibile - keep a variety of unit types ranging from the renaissance to the present or a little into the future (but not too far, you wouldn't want to upset the tiddly-peeps). Pikemen can the core of an army facing an early modern opponent or a quaint ceremonial corps guarding the local monuments and palaces. Take Elwynnese longbowmen for instance, equally as good in 2007 as they would have been in 1407, difference is that if they take to the field today they won't all be bunched together in a tight formation to resist the attacks of mounted men-at-arms, oh, and their arrows are grenade tipped (a nice legacy from the Elwynnese wars against the elves and others).

Which leads me to my 2nd point, the Imperial Army ought really to focus on being an elite contemporary and professional force as close to the bleeding edge of technology as it is possible to get. The militias by contrast, well they can afford to be a little bit more eccentric, though, that said, if they get called up to augement the Imperial Army in an emergency those pikemen and wizards might need a crash course on how to handle an assault rifle. ;)

I'm just trying to set something up with a bit more feudal flair to it... move more things into the hands of nobles to help give them things to do..

I guess in some ways, I'm trying to decentralize the military...

Well, if that were to happen, how many Shirereithans would fight in a RecWar?
I can't imagine the power Shireroth would hold in a RecWar on Micras these days :evil

I can ... assuming most people here could handle a recwar fine ... I'm sure there's gotta be at least two or three brilliant military minds here ...

Think bigger, Erik... we need to make close friends... and then when they have a natural slump of activity, convince them that they're dying and the only way they can survive as a respectable entity is to become a Duchy of Shireroth!

Great plan, Ari!

If Batavië is dying, you all will know it :evil
But don't tell our Prime Minister anything about this 'plan' :no
