Blessings and Banes are attributes your character takes upon character creation that further define your character beyond the stats. Things like "Blind" or "Deaf" are Banes, while stuff like "Direction Sense" or "Jack-of-all-Trades" are Blessings.

More on this after I brainstorm.

Yeah.

And you've got to take a certain number (probably three) blessings and banes when you create your character.

Three would make sense. How does one get more? and do you HAVE to have a balance after that?

The one running the game could theoretically grant you new blessings or banes dependent on what happens during the game.

Another possibility is assigning a point-value to each blessing and bane, and requiring that the numbers equate (or be tilted towards banes). That would be more modular, and would allow us to make 0-point blessings/banes (just little things that one could take to personalize a character).

Maybe. I'm not so sure about that.
