malarbor Malarbor Says: Congratulations to CJ Miller who finally landed himself a job as Arbiter and to Jonas who got himself elected as Praetor. With these two positions filled, we are now able to get charter amendments taken care of and move Shireroth forward into a new future.

The Future of Shireroth convention is still going on. Some 'Interesting' ideas have been put forth, which could lead to a broader form of government, and perhaps even an opening of the Landsraad to all. Will this work in Shireroth's favor? Only I can know.. and I'm not telling! Gods don't have to reveal secrets to you puny mortals.

In other random news: The Kaiser is doing a substantial forum tune up. Make sure to let him know if his fallible mortal hands made a mistake. Also, Jake wants to know 'What Shireroth means to you', so go forth and put your 2 erb in, it should prove interesting, and maybe shed some light on the psychological needs of our community.

And it would appear ICEBREAKER has the power to tap into people's dreams. Let us only hope he uses this power for great good, and not nefarious evil. Though good money is on the later. Malarbor approves!

Jake, the Minister of the Exterior, is looking for an ambassador to help with our dealings with nations abroad. If you have any interest, please drop him a line. We have many out there who could be our friends, won't you help them to get to know who we are?

A new company was created and given a forum the other day. Though it's not clear, we think they have something to do with documents, AND services. So go request something from them.

And finally, go buy a copy of POLIKO it's a rather good read. Though there should be at least one article dedicated to the glory of me. MALARBOR DEMANDS IT!

Treaty withdrawn as per the Duke of Yardistan's land grant.

While I am in favor of Kanto joining Shireroth, an Earldom should not have the power exercise diplomacy. In truth, there are several points this treaty should contain that are missing: military, secession, ascension, and territory.

Well I'm glad this worked out, but yes, as Ryan pointed out there are a few things that are issues.

1. Straylight's....not a duchy anymore. I think. Is that important? Why not be your own territory, like Hurmu?
2. As a part of Shireroth, there's just not a way that you can maintain your own foreign relations. The actual relationship between Kanto and Shireroth needs to be explored. Self-Governing Protectorate? So...we protect you and you retain some for of independence is what I'm seeing. We'll work this out.

Not much can be done until we work out #2, but the other things Ryan mentioned will also be important. Damnit Ryan, let me do my job!

Straylight's feudal status is not that important, if he wants to be a part of it then as far as I'm concerned he can - all he needs for is an OK from Ryan and Scott. Basically, it's the same as being a part of a duchy except you need one more person to approve of it (which makes it better of course :p).

CJ: I'm curious, though, why Straylight? I mean, it's a bit of an unexpected choice, if not for any other reason that if you want some land, well, you'll have to bring your own. Then again it wouldn't be the first time something completely random got added to Straylight, and I'm not that concerned about cultural purity... at least as long as I know what's going on culturally, anyway. That's something that never was very clear to me: How would you describe Kanto if you were pretending it were a real place?

There are several issues with the treaty.

1) Straylight is not a duchy anymore. You might not think that it is important, but it is. Language is important.

2) It is illegal for subnational division, except duchies, to have separate currencies.

3) It is also illegal for protectorates to conduct foreign policy. The LawBook explicitly states that the defense and foreign relations of Protectorates are handled by the Imperial Government.

4) CJ has joined Shireroth as a citizen. Why then join his one-citizen nation as well? He can keep it separate and have dual citizenship.

I don't have a problem with Kanto joining Straylight, nor commandeering a couple of small unused islands in Yardistan for him to play with. Nor do i have a problem with him developing a local currency; this could be akin to BerkShares. The issue of foreign policy is obviously a barrier, but is easily amended.

The reason Kanto is joining Shireroth is because it's a one-man nation and has remained that way for a long time (no offense by that remark, just a statement of the facts). It can be given more care and development as a part of Shireroth - ideally - and then go its own way when it reaches a point where independence is sustainable.

At this time I'm not sure we can take another one-man duchy. We're already considering dissolving Goldshire. What's happened with that, by the way?

NO. Not a duchy, not a territory, nothing. Shireroth gains nothing from this. Join as an individual, rename a county to Kanto and work with that. Keep this outside Shireroth.

Please, let's all be nice. Here's the deal.

The only thing stopping this from going through is the technicality, namely what Kanto is described as. Whether Kanto is "annexed" by Shireroth or you rename a Shirithian county Kanto makes no difference because Kanto owns no land on the MCS map, so essentially we'd have to give you some land either way. As I said before, I'm reluctant for Kanto to become a duchy because of our current duchy situation, so I'd (personally) rather Kanto become a Protectorate or take a county in (pick a Duchy). As I said before, it makes no difference from a land based perspective, so there's really no difference, except that if you take a county (as Malliki suggested) you can maybe play a part in Shirithian politics (Landsraad etc).

The Kaiser and I will continue to work on this with CJ.

I refuse to accept this, period. We gain nothing from this.

By the way, which subdivision is willing to give up land for Kanto?

I have already said that I would find a couple of suitable, small, and unused islands for him to play with, and that Kanto will become a subdivision of Yardistan. I'm currently in the process of reviewing potential sites.

Right then, presently the territory I am considering granting Kanto is the area known as Northern Absentia/Lolz.

See this map for a reference.

Little to no development has been made with the county, and its naming hearkens to little more than a jab at Jess (not that he doesn't deserve it...).

Eastern Absentia/Agningas is also a possibility given that Corey is no longer with us.

There you have it. Take it as a county and rename it to Kanto. If you don't, Ryan can't give you the land since land transfers without imperial approval can only be made between duchies.

Fair enough.

Also, try to be objective about things like this (this applies to everyone). You may think it sucks, but I think it's pretty good.
