Flag Voting

Please rank these flags in order of which ones you like most to least (ie 1 is your favorite, 9 is your least favorite).
Every Shirerithian citizen as of this moment may vote in this contest, regardless of whether they want a new flag or not. The old flag isn't on here, because the winner of this design contest will go head to head against the old flag in the Landsraad. However, partisans of the old flag are welcome to rank eg Nick's design, which looks very similar, first.

The votes will then be added up using some sort of preference ranking thing or single transferable vote or one of those sorts of things. Suggestions are welcome for exactly which. Please be honest - ie don't rank a flag lower just to prevent it from winning; rank it lower only if you honestly like it less.

Voting open until...I dunno, Friday ought to be long enough.

The original flag's problems, as far as I can see them, were that it had a weird pointless white blob in the middle (looking especially... blobby... at lower resolutions), that the bars were way too thin, and that it had a profusion of poorly chosen colours that nobody even remembers what they stand for anymore (and whatever it was, it's not any values that Shireroth has had since 2001). Ryan's flag does nothing at all to solve the last problem, exchanges the middle one into looking like a dartboard, and exacerbates the first one. SO WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP VOTING FOR IT? First of all, it's not "MY" flag. Scott designed the initial layout, and all I added was the star, because a white square made no sense at all. I just happen to like it, which is why I voted for it. It's a star/prism emanating rays of light in different colors, representing the different cultures and people of Shireroth. That's enough meaning for me.

In regards to the width of the bars; they are no longer bars when they are changed to rays. Therefore width does not really matter. You could effectively do the same thing with the Macedonian flag, which has wider rays, by replacing the white sun with a white star. The whole point of appeasing the traditionalists was to keep it as close to the original as possible, while still redesigning the whole layout so that it each aspect was substantiated. This was done, and it works quite well IMO.

First of all, it's not "MY" flag.

Ah, sorry about that, I was just going with the names that were established for the vote... I can respect that with a little bit of creativity you can see the disparate colours of the flag as representing different Shirithian cultures (and I suppose it's sort of appropriate in that sense given how little consistency Shirithian cultures have). Thing is, to me, a brown and red and green and yellow line all emanating from the center only represent incontinent fruit salad.

Well, as you can see, one big traditionalist has already been appeased and voted for the Explosion Flag (one of the more compelling names you could have for a flag of Shireroth, btw). Hopefully others will fall in line
